A nonprofit foundation recently announced it will fund 19 grant requests to help improve schools in Geneva, Illinois, the Kane County Chronicle reports.
According to the Chronicle, the Geneva Academic Foundation will give more than $50,000 to provide district schools with new technology, art supplies, books and other items.
New technology includes 12 document cameras for three elementary schools, a classroom projector for a middle school music program, laptop computers for high school art classes and more.
Educators have found they can use interactive technology, such as a document camera or a laptop, in conjunction with an HD-TV, LED monitor or a
DLP projector to expose students to different learning strategies.
"The district just would not have the money to purchase these items with the current economy and with their budget cuts,” said Mary Bencini, the Project Search chairwoman for the Geneva Academic Foundation.
According to the Chronicle, the foundation received grant requests totalling nearly $163,000, but the organization funded fewer than one-third due to budgetary constraints.
