Interactive technology, such as a computer, connected to a classroom projector can encourage student participation.Telecommunications company U.S. Cellular recently awarded donations to four Illinois teachers, three of whom will use the money to help fund technology projects in their classrooms, the GateHouse News Service reports.

As part of the wireless carrier's nationwide Calling All Teachers campaign, U.S. Cellular teamed with philanthropic website DonorsChoose.org to donate $1 million to help fund projects requested by teachers and school staff.

According to GateHouse, VIT Elementary School librarian Connie Workman and VIT Junior High social studies teacher Amanda Klaska each used the funds to purchase a laptop computer and a classroom projector for presentations. Westview Elementary School fourth grade teacher Michelle O'Brien purchased a Nintendo Wii gaming console and Wii Fit video game for her students to encourage physical activity.

Educators have found teachers can use interactive technology in the classroom, such as a laptop or Wii, and connect it to an HD-TV, LED monitor or HDMI projector to expand their resources and encourage class participation.

In a press release, U.S. Cellular said more than 1,750 teachers nationwide will receive funding for projects through its $1 million donation, benefiting more than 160,000 students.
