Math teacher Tim Fisher from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, recently received a new $800 document scanner for his classroom courtesy of an online donation website, KCRG-TV9 reports.
DonorsChoose.org is an online charity to which public school teachers can request funding for projects to enhance their learning environments. Teachers post proposals on the website, which are then paid for by interested donors. According to the website, requests range from pencils for writing projects to instruments for recitals to new technology.
According to KCRG-TV9, Fisher's new document scanner will enable him to use a classroom projector to review student assignments in front of the class.
Educators have found that implementing new technology in the classroom, such as a document scanner, a laptop computer or an DPL projector, can provide teachers with additional tools and create a learning environment in which students are more eager to participate.
According to KCRG-TV9, 39 projects in Cedar Rapids have received funding, while eight are still waiting for adequate funding.
