English university to host simulated stock trading demonstration
November 10, 2010

Students at Aston Business School will have an opportunity to experience life as a financial trader through a financial trading room simulation. The Aston Business School in Birmingham, England, will host a simulated financial trading room demonstration powered by Thomson Reuters on November 10 to help give postgraduate students a feel for life as a financial trader.

According to Insider Media, the trading room will be laid out in the style of a classroom, with four rows of desks and 20 computer workstations. Mounted in the front of the room will be a 21-foot long Daktronics LCD Ticker display that provides live market data and news.

Additionally, there will be an instructor console at the front of the room linked to an overhead projector, enabling classroom demonstrations of all the software.

This is one of the many innovative projects teachers are implementing to enhance classrooms through technology. Educators have found that by using interactive technology in the classroom, such as a computer, and connecting it to an HD-TV, LED monitor or HDMI projector can create a learning environment where students are more eager to participate and learn valuable skills.

Head of Finance and Accounting at Aston Business School Jim Steeley, said the financial trading room will equip students with the skill and knowledge they need when entering the workforce.
