The University of Houston-Victoria in Victoria, Texas, will host a conference to cover technology in the classroom with the hopes of educating teachers as well as students, the Victoria Advocate reports.
Schools are beginning to embrace new technology more than ever. While this development is appealing to today’s tech-savvy youth, many teachers are struggling to stay abreast with the rapid innovations being introduced to the classroom.
The 2010 Library Technology Mini-Conference, scheduled for November 5, will help teachers learn about new technology trends in the class, Dennis Riedesel, associate professor in the School of Education & Human Development at the University of Houston-Victoria, told the Victoria Advocate.
One section of the conference will cover educational technology, including social media, blogs and interactive whiteboards, which can be used in conjunction with a classroom computer or overhead projector to enhance a teacher’s lesson.
“These tools are the chalk and blackboard of our generation,” said Riedesel. “It’s important that we continue to train ourselves as educators on the use of these different tools for teaching.”
Technology vendors will be present in the University Center Multi-Purpose Room to further educate teachers, librarians and students about how their products can further classroom resources.
