Woodville High School in Woodville, Alabama is hosting an auction to raise money for new classroom technology, the Scottsboro Daily Sentinel reports.
The school will use money raised during the auction to fund a project to install a smartboard and over-head projector for each classroom.
The project is estimated to cost around $16,000. Woodville High School Principal Bruce Maples said he hopes to raise at least half the amount through the auction. Then the school might be able to match the funds, he said.
Interactive whiteboards are new educational tools that educators can connect to an HD-TV, LED monitor or classroom projector to share information to a larger number of students. Maples said the new technology will enhance the students’ learning experiences.
“Before I became a principal, I worked in the classroom for 12 years,” Maples said. “I know how important it is for students to learn from classroom technology. It really changes a lot in their day-to-day learning experience.”
Many schools are purchasing new mercury-free classroom projectors to provide teachers and students with sustainable and effective learning equipment. Recenlty, Elkhorn High School in Omaha, Nebraska placed a mounted projector in each of its classrooms.
