Several schools in Newton County, Georgia received grants from the state’s Department of Education to purchase new classroom technology, according to the Newton Citizen.
Grant recipients include Clements Middle School and Alcovy and Eastside high schools.
Clements and Eastside High were awarded $65,000 and $67,500, respectively, to purchase new equipment for their engineering/technology and family and consumer science programs.
The equipment will include new computers, interactive whiteboards and engineering equipment such as robotics, cutting machines and new software, said James Woodard, director of career, technical and agricultural education at the Newton County School System.
Educators say new technology in the classroom, such as a laptop, interactive whiteboard or a classroom projector can provide students with additional resources and help them stay involved during class.
Eastside, along with Alcovy High School, received an additional $20,000 grant to help certify the healthcare science and business programs. The funds will be used to purchase new software and technology to help students prepare and earn industry credentials.
