The St. Vrain Valley School District in Colorado says it has raised the private matching funds needed to receive $3.6 in federal grants to help develop a science and technology program.
According to the Denver Post, the school district is among the 49 finalists of nearly 1,700 school districts and nonprofits nationwide that applied to win a portion of the $650 million Investing in Innovation Fund from the U.S. Department of Education.
But in order to receive the awards, the district had to raise a 20 percent match, or $721,776, from private sources. District director of priority programs Regina Renaldi said the entire matching fund came from Ridgeview Tel, a broadband company.
This summer, several schools used federal grant funding to upgrade technology within the classrooms. Educators have found that new technology such as a computer, HDTV or a
DLP projector can create an environment in which students are more eager to learn.
If St. Vrain is awarded the grant money, a portion of it will go to a science and technology program at Skyline High School.
