The provincial government of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario has invested $760,000 in three schools through Ontarios Green Schools Pilot Initiative, according to SooNews.
The funding will provide Alexander Henry High School, Korah Collegiate and White Pines Collegiate with new energy-efficient technology.
This provincial investment in energy-efficient technology will allow schools in Sault Ste. Marie to save money by reducing energy bills while at the same time assist in teaching students about energy efficiency, said David Orazietti, member of Provincial Parliament for the city, the report relays.
Orazietti said the government recognizes the need for environmentally friendly equipment that will help support local jobs and build a stronger economy.
Many schools in Canada and the U.S. have invested in green equipment to reduce their carbon footprint and set a positive example for students. Using an energy-saving computer, LED monitor or mercury-free
classroom projector can help schools continue to offer a high-level of learning while also allowing them to cut down on energy expenditures.
Schools across the U.S. have introduced sustainable technology in conjunction with new interactive learning tools to promote academic achievement. Investing in smartboards and digital cameras for the classroom have been proven to spark interest among students and lead to more class participation.
