North Carolina public schools win Race to the Top challenge, will invest in new technology

North Carolina public schools will receive federal funding as part of the U.S. Department of Educations Race to the Top challenge.
The state is one of a select group of winners that will share $3.4 billion for school improvements.
The federal funding will improve low-performing schools and allow schools statewide to invest in new technology.
Many schools have introduced cutting-edge technology into the classroom as a way of stimulating interest from students. By connecting a laptop to an HD TV, LED monitor or
USB projector, teachers can create a learning environment that can reach a wider audience of students at one time.
Educators have been exploring new learning initiatives as a way of connecting with at-risk students who are struggling to stay in school. Many of the new programs developed by education leaders involve using hands-on equipment and fun interactive tools, such as smartboards and digital cameras.
Recently, the top-teaching award in Louisiana was given to a teacher who successfully incorporated smart technology into her math classes as a way of sparking interest in her students.
