A new report commissioned by Science Foundation Arizona found the state's technology sector managed to weather the storm of the economic recession and add jobs in certain areas, the Arizona Republic reports.
Despite a struggling job market in the public sector, employment in the Arizona's aerospace and defense market grew 8.1 percent between 2007 and 2009, while biosciences employment increased 7 percent, the study found.
Technology industry employment gains in Arizona and other states signal an increased need for skilled and knowledgeable IT workers in the private sector. Prospective employees can increase their chances of being hired by demonstrating a knowledge of enterprise technology, such as computers, servers and
DLP projectors.
"Those sectors have performed really well," said the report's author Mitch Horowitz. "It gives you a sense of optimism about where the jobs will be coming from."
According to a recent report by staffing firm Robert Half, private sector IT hiring in the United States is expected to increase by 7 percent in the second quarter of 2011. The Mountain region, in particular, will see significant growth, increasing by an estimated 16 percent.
