Six workforce training programs in Oklahoma recently received $3 million in federal stimulus funding to promote careers in green industries.
According to a news release from the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, the Oklahoma Project Green will go to support programs that will train more than 4,700 people in jobs that address environmental challenges, such as renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The grant recipients include the TCC Green Training Consortium, Eastern Region Green Consortium, OK Department of Career & Technology Education Green Consortium, OSU-OKC Green Jobs Consortium, Southern Oklahoma Green Jobs Consortium and the Green Healthcare Training Consortium.
Green initiatives have taken priority for many companies across the nation in recent years, as they look to reduce both their carbon footprint and energy bills. Companies can accomplish both of these goals by investing in new eco-friendly technology, such as a low-energy computer, energy-efficient lighting and a mercury-free
DLP projector.
The state also received an additional $3 million from the U.S. Department of Labor. According to NewsOK, the remaining funds will support other green initiatives, such as the Center of Excellence for Energy Innovation and the Lean and Green Institute at the University of Oklahoma.
