
Sixteen Rhode Islanders were recently selected to participate in a new intensive IT training program aimed at providing unemployed and underemployed citizens the IT skills they need succeed in the workplace.
The program, called RI_Works_IT Boot Camp, will focus on an IT-related curriculum that includes technical certification, customer service, industry tours and interview training.
RI_Works_IT Boot Camp is organized and managed by nonprofit Tech Collective, the Governor's Workforce Board of Rhode Island, Workforce Partnership of Greater Rhode Island and TCP Learning.
With statewide unemployment at 11.5 percent, now is an ideal time for Rhode Islanders to pick up new skills to jump-start their careers. The IT industry is one of the fastest growing in the state, and job-seekers can impress prospective employees by demonstrating experience with modern workplace technology, including a computer, a server or an HDMI projector.
According to survey, more than half of Rhode Island employers indicated they have difficulty coping with the challenges inadequate IT staffs. Through the boot camp program, local businesses will have the opportunity to work with many of the participants before hiring.
