International software giant SAP recently discovered that videoconferencing, more than many other green technologies, can help it save money while also reducing its carbon footprint, Greentech Media reports.
To improve its energy efficiency, SAP has invested in several green technologies for its campus in Palo Alto, California, including solid state lighting, electric cars, DC data centers, solar panels and videoconferencing technology, according to Greentech.
Of the technologies, videoconferencing allowed it save the most money. After paying $300,000 to install three telepresence systems, the company will be able to see a return of investment within the first year due to reduced travel costs.
Solid state lighting, by comparison, costs the company $434,000 and will see an annual savings of $80,000, Greentech stated.
By connecting a computer or telepresence center to an HD-TV, LED monitor or
DLP projector, businesses can improve their video display and incorporate more employees into one meeting.
In addition to reducing travel cost, businesses have found videoconferencing can increase the productivity of their employees. According to a recent report by Damova, 63 percent of survey respondents are more inclined to complete their work faster when meeting someone via video conference.
