At a recent launch event, Microsoft unveiled its new Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system and demonstrated how it plans to become the optimal OS for enterprise smartphones.
With an emphasis on personalization and customization, it is clear Microsoft intends to reach the consumer market with its new phones. However, presenting at the event, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President Joe Belfiore demonstrated a number of innovative business applications that can be run from a Windows 7-based phone, including Office Hub, which provides access to Microsoft Office applications, SharePoint and OneNote.
Belfiore demonstrated a PowerPoint 2010 presentation at the event. However, rather than connecting to a computer, Belfiore connected the phone itself to a
business projector to display the presentation.
By connecting a Windows Phone 7-based smartphone or tablet to an HDMI projector, businesspeople can carry their presentations from office to office without hauling around a laptop.
Devices running Windows Phone 7 will be available on November 8 through AT&T. Initially, the operating system will be available on devices from HTC, LG Electronics, Dell, and Samsung.
