Researchers from Environmental Leader Insights recently forecasted the U.S. green data center market to increase from its current $3.8 billion valueto $13.8 billion in 2015. The rise represents a compound annual growth rate of 29 percent during the period.
The rise in the green data center market is a microcosm of an overarching business trend that has seen many companies explore sustainable technology. The economic crisis has resulted in the need for businesses to reduce expenses and streamline their operations. Investing in useful tools, such as a green data center, energy-efficient computer or mercury-free
DLP projector, can help companies reduce energy bills for years.
The average data center uses as much electricity as 40,000 homes each year, according to EL Insights. Across the globe, there are nearly 4.8 million operating servers that are not being used, which still result in $21.4 billion in annual maintenance, management, hardware and energy costs.
A recent survey found many Connecticut businesses are leading the charge toward green efficient products, with nearly 75 percent of respondents having adopted sustainable business strategies, up from 47 percent three years ago.
