Skype recently released a beta version of its 5.0 software for Windows, which will enable users to conduct multi-party videoconferencing.
The software is currently free, making it a useful tool for small businesses that want to save on additional travel expenses but still maintain close customer relationships. Business owners can connect their Windows computers to a high-definition TV, LCD monitor or
HDMI projector, run the Skype software and be able to have clear, crisp business conversations with clients.
Although Skype acknowledges the beta version may still have some bugs, the test run has been positive overall, allowing the company to give a brief glimpse to business leaders as to the potential of the full version.
According to a VoIP Planet report, the upside to the new Skype capabilities is far greater than the drawbacks.
Andy Abramson, CEO of Communicano, told VoIP Planet, theres nobody who physically works with each other, so videoconferencing has been a godsend, as we can actually see one another without having to travel anywhere.
The Skype beta is currently only available for Windows-based PCs, though the company plans to release a Mac version later this year, according to the report. The new software is not without its problems, but as it is a beta version, VoIP Planet said it was willing to overlook some of the flaws considering the numerous benefits it offers small businesses.
