
A recent study found Colorados clean energy economy has helped fuel the state toward economic growth.
The state has made a conscious move toward green business practices, according to the Denver Post, by creating eco friendly public policies and supporting businesses that want to incorporate sustainable technology.
A Headwaters Economics study found the most competitive states are those that have created new power generation facilities and jobs, but have also invested in clean energy technologies and services, the Denver Post relays. Businesses looking for new sustainable equipment will typically look to purchase efficient lighting, energy-saving computers and
business projectors.
Between 1995 and 2007, Colorados clean energy jobs grew by 30 percent - adding more than 17,000 green jobs - which was faster than the Rocky Mountain states overall job growth, the Denver Post writes. Of the five states surveyed in the region, 50 percent of green businesses are located in Colorado, followed by Utah and New Mexico with 16 percent, Montana with 11 percent and 6 percent in Wyoming.
Greenopia recently released a list of the greenest states in the U.S., ranking Colorado eighth overall. Of the top five most environmentally friendly states, all are located in the Northeastern or Northwestern regions of the country, with Washington and Vermont placing first and second, respectively.
