Older-model projector lamps could be considered hazardous waste
May 5, 2010

Cut down on e-waste with new-model electronicsSpecialized services are necessary to properly handle the recycling of older-model projector lamps, since they may contain dangerous chemicals like mercury, according to Projector Lamp Services.

The company, which is the provider of re-lamping services to firms whose business projectors use outdated display technology, says that it is one of the few organizations offering such an option. PLS says that projector lamps fall into a difficult classification, with some specialty e-waste collection centers declining to accept them for proper disposal since they are so dissimilar to other types of electronic refuse.

This would imply, therefore, that many companies should look to more modern versions of the technology to save on energy bills and protect the environment, since the best projectors of today are both more energy-efficient and far less damaging to the local ecology if improperly disposed.

Hardware makers are not the only players in the business IT industry looking to improve their green credentials. Software manufacturers like SAP have announced sweeping new efforts to provide more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solutions to their customers.ADNFCR-3190-ID-19759737-ADNFCR
